NASA moved into their second semi-final with a fairly comfortable Divisional Cup Quarter final 9-1 win over Depaul Trust. The weather was hot and humid, with a rock hard dried out pitch surface preventiing both teams from putting on a better footballing show.....
Fair play to the league for allowing the match to proceed after the recent 'political' carry on's. Referee McKenna stepped up to take charge of the game, applying his own brand of firm, fair, common sense, neutral officiating without any 'hidden agendas' whatsoever. Gaining both sides respect for his calm authority, even though he MISSED that clear cut 1st half penalty.... lol... Eyesight Ref..... You can't have everything i guess.... lol... (Only joking CM)
Respect due to Depaul and their 'gaffer' Mick Scott in particular, for sending his boys to play with full commitment, competitive and no shortage of quality regardless of the final scoreline. It is sincerely hoped that they will choose to remain in the CCL programme next season as they are exactly the type of group the competition was originally devised to encourage! Meanwhile it's the Contenders and Divisional Cup semi's for NASA, where x3 officials appointed for each game will make for far better officiating and on-field conduct... Bring it on!
Meanwhile to those out there maybe wishing to keep on dreaming of negative insignificant issues.. Remember "politics" should be left to politicians, while allowing others concentrate on the 'beautiful game'... Nothing else will be permitted to tarnish the quality of this 5th season league competition... Football Fever? Neutral observers might have perhaps felt that "World War Three" was about to begin, but Depaul, just like West End were well beaten by the final whistle and NASA comfortably grabbed a crucial 3 points over dangerous rivals.. (Shaun Brown's) Moorside? (Mark Bullock's) Hazelrigg? and (Trevor Singleton's) Fawdon? - Read this and weep... We'll be meeting for our long overdue first clash this season and others again real soon.. Let's get it on.. "History" beckons for those ready to reach out and take their share...... Commiseration's to D Brown on his unfortunate sideline injury. While never seeing 'eye to eye' it gives no one, least of all myself any cause for celebration to learn of such an horrendous injury suffered by such a fantastic, talented footballer. Get well soon pal...
Indeed, what would be an absolute pleasure for someone so disgracefully condemned, reviled and ridiculed for 'non football reasons' to wipe those ignorant, sneers and mocking grins off your arrogant faces come the seasons end..
The 'Numpty', 'F****** We-Pon'?? and 'Daft C***' might just end up having the last and best laugh of all and celebrate the most remarkable comeback since... Well a certain 'boxer' springs to mind... Allez NASA...
