NEWARK FLOWSERVE 2 – 0 FLOWSERVE WANDERERS RESERVES
We took all three points from this derby match at Lowfields on Sunday but overall we were well below par.
Too many passes went astray and movement off the ball was lacking for long periods.
There was no doubting the effort put in but we never looked to have a decent shape to the side. Against teams like the Wanderers we have got to impose our style of play and not let ourselves be drawn down to their level. We always seem to be able to raise our game against the better sides but struggle to kill off lesser teams. I don’t know if some of our lads looked at their league position and thought that they were in for an easy game because it seldom works out that way.
James Sissons scored his second goal in as many games to give us the lead at the interval.
More pressure in the second half saw Wanderers keeper Dave Wilson produce some fine saves before he was finally beaten by an Ollie Gee free-kick with ten minutes to go. Craig Charters was again the pick of our players and deserved to be voted man of the match.
The defence were solid as ever but Wanderers could have levelled the scores after breaking through late in the second half, only to be denied by a fine save by Lee. The midfield grafted well but sometimes gave their lads too much time on the ball. Ollie, Rob and Ben worked hard upfront but were sloppy with the ball too often.
All twelve of you that took part in the game are better players than you showed today so let’s make sure we show that against Castle Barge Res on Sunday.
We now sit just three points off the top of the table but leave Flowserve Wanderers Res.looking favourites for the drop into division two after failing to win any of their games so far this season.
