However, it was Mhawu United who struck first, converting a penalty in the 21st minute after a foul in the box. The penalty taker found the back of the net with a precise right-footed shot, leaving Mkhumane with no chance. This setback prompted MPINI COSMOS to increase their attacking efforts, and Lungelo Mamba had a chance in the 29th minute, but his shot was saved, keeping the scoreline unchanged.

As the first half progressed, Mkhumane showcased his goalkeeping skills with a parry in the 32nd minute, denying Mhawu United a second goal. With the half-time whistle blowing at 45 minutes, MPINI COSMOS went into the break trailing by a goal.

The second half saw an immediate tactical change as Mpumelelo Nhleko replaced Gcinani Masuku, indicating a shift in strategy. Just three minutes into the half, Lungelo Mamba received a yellow card for a foul, adding to the tension on the pitch. Thembelihle Mamba then made a key pass in the 49th minute, a long through ball that created a chance for Mandisa Hlandze although it did not result in a goal as the Mhawu keeper was first to the ball and cleared it out of danger.

Mlandvo Ndzinisa found himself offside twice in the early stages of the second half, both times due to mistimed runs, but he continued to pose a threat. Mandisa Hlandze was persistent in his efforts, having another shot saved in the 54th minute, before Lungelo Mamba's attempt went wide shortly after.
