Moorside made the short journey to table topping boothstown in today's league game hoping to end the home side's unbeaten start, the visitors made a couple of changes to the line up that narrowly lost on Thursday night and were also sporting an unfamiliar formation as manager Scott pepper looked to get the most out his talented pool of players, moorside started the brighter and were soon in front as top scorer Jason Wood opened the scoring with a tremendous strike from 25 yards that arrowed into the top corner giving the home keeper no chance 1-0. moorside continued to turn the screw and were totally dominating possession and were rewarded with a second as Paul parker opened his account forcing the ball home from close range directly from a corner, the new formation seemed to suit the lads as curt and cal were finding lots of space getting forward as much as possible , Jonny and Tom were comfortable at the back and the midfield 3 were bossing things. The half time break was unwelcomed as moorside were going from strength to strength but it allowed boothstown to regroup and start to show why they were the league leader's going into the match, the home side were a different outfit in the 2nd half partly due to the bollocking they must have been given in the team talk and moorside getting a bit fatigued, the game was much more even now and flowed from end to end but it was the home side that got the 3rd goal with a well taken solo effort, this is where moorside usually crumble but not today the lads dug in and battled through a sticky 5 minute spell, changes were made Reece Dalton coming on for charlie who had run himself ragged in the middle shortly followed by jack and Brandon replacing Harry and woody respectively with the formation changing to the more familiar 4-5-1 which allowed moorside to go on the counter as boothstown obviously pressed on looking for an equaliser, Paul then went close a couple of times and will feel he should have extended the lead as will Reece as he got played into a 1 on 1 situation but a good save from the keeper kept the score at 1-2, boothstown too were creating some chances but solid defending from moorside kept them out, a couple more changes were made to keep things fresh as moorside looked to see the game out, crilly replacing todd and woody Harry and Charlie coming back on for cal, Paul and liam, the ref seemed to be doing his best to help get boothstown a point as the home side were given a couple of very soft free kicks in promising areas, Jonnys nose coming to the rescue on one of them, the result came down to who wanted it most and it was clearly moorside as they dug in when it mattered and showed some real maturity and quality at times, it was a well earned and deserved 3 points and keeps moorside in touching distance with the rest of the league. It's still early days but todays display is what moorside should be aiming for every week. Curt Ingleby was voted MOM by his fellow players but to be fair there wasn't a bad performance from anyone. Well done lads
