An on-form Monkton Phoenix went into a tough game against one of the Divisions top teams on the back of some great team performances. Knowing it wasn’t going to be an easy game, Phoenix started strong and never let up. With tackling and passing on show that would make any coach proud, Phoenix were soon a goal to the good when Ryan found the net after great movement. Ryan’s strike was quickly followed by a neat finish from Charlie McLeod, and then a cheeky goal from Kane Rushton-Doughney put Monkton firmly in the driving seat with little over 5 minutes on the clock! Solid defensive work from Ethan Goss and Jack Georgeson left little to do for Monkton ‘keeper Dan Zahra. Monkton with a comfortable 3 goal cushion as they went into the break. Half time changes saw the fresh legs of Jake Dawson introduced up front with Alex Reid dropping into midfield after a dogged first half leading the line and Charlie rested. The second half started much the same as the first, with both teams battling for possession but Phoenix on top. A neat corner whipped in by Ethan soon found the net with a little help from a Hebburn defender. 5 minutes from time, Ryan bagged a well-deserved 2nd after a terrific performance as captain. 5-0 to Monkton the full time score. WELL DONE LADS!
