Massey's kicked off the season under the new SMT in thrilling style with a well fought win over Cosmos!
Things got off to a good start when within the first 15minutes we were 2-0 up!
Jason Walker collected the ball on the edge of the area produced a goal that Messi would have been proud of, by lofting the ball with the outside of his right foot over the keeper and off the bar to make it 1-0, not long after Adam Wells picked the ball up on the left hand side and with his McDonalds breakfast boosting him on, took on his man before nestling the ball into the bottom right hand corner!
Manager Adam Reeve was about to sit down on his deck chair and rest his knee when (shock) we conceded a sloppy goal from a corner! Before the match Reeve had brought up the importance of Captain Buzz to make sure the defence were not humiliated by a corner as happened last week, but the Brummy Cup-cake obviously didn't listen and it was 2-1! Not long after disaster struck again when Cosmos broke down the left and after hitting the woodwork - their left winger smashed the ball past Tuck in goal!
HT 2-2
Reeve couldn't give the hair dryer treatment in the break, because he had lent his to Wells! We came out all guns blazing in the second half and managed to go ahead again through Jonny Lee who took a good past from Wells and struck the ball into the net!
What happened next could be on Ian Wright's football bloopers! About to clear the ball from his penalty area (I thought it was Nane and Ant - so apologies) Stu struck the ball into Jack and instead of the defence clearing the ball, their bloke nipped in and tucked the ball past Tuck, 3-3
Reeve them replaced the injured Sam Whitehouse with Dan Blockley, obviously a great substitution because not long after a corner came in and Jonny Lee scored with his shoulder! It could have been an OG but on Twitter it was announced as a Lee goal so that stands.
Reeve then introduced Scott Sedgewick for ALM9 and Will Edwards for Adam Wells, who goes on a weeks loan to Spain. Adios! It has to be said for those final 15mins the defending couldn't have been different, headers won, clearances were cleared, bodies flew in and we managed to hold on (which included a 'keeper coming up from a corner' moment) to claim all three points and start off the new season with a win! The bumper crowd could be heard singing Reeves name from the carpark!
Final Score - Cosmos 3-4 Massey's
