Lighthouse Athletic 8 Monyhull Church 0
A bumper pay day for Lighthouse Athletic as they dish out a thumping to bottom of the league Monyhull. Last season didn't go too well for Monyhull and this year isn't any better: still yet to score, however that's a statistic that they share with Clarendon, no less.
I had Lighthouse down as promotion candidates this season. They may do better than that.
Ray Rose adds: First home game of the season and what a performance today. On a pitch perfect for passing, Lighthouse did just that. Straight from kick off both teams were intent on attacking football. A run froml Luke Reece was converted at the far post from Carl Jones.
Chances were being created every time Lighthouse attacked. Another run by Luke Reece from the left was crossed in and floated into the net. Monyhull had a neat move on the half hour only to be snuffed out by the collossal pairing of Lewis Cottrill and Knile Taylor. After 37 mins a great ball from Adam (Duracell) Campbell, this guy never stops running found Dean Millward and he brushed aside the defence to net: 3-0 .
Another fine move involving Cammo and Carl found Dean Richardson in space who twisted and turned found Cammo who was brought down on 41 mins. Adam duly converted the penalty. 4-0 . To their credit, Monyhull never gave up and was urged on by their captain. After 44 mins Dean Millward scored his second with a close range shot to make it 5-0. Dean's movement today was first rate, always willing to run the channels and was always a handful up front.
The second half and Monyhull came out all guns blazing but the Lighthouse defence were magnificent today from Robbie and Jack and for me the best centre backs in our division. Cottie and Knile A, mention to our young keeper Ollie made his debut last week will grow in confidence as games go by and will be an excellent keeper. After 54 mins a well deserved goal by Dean (Messi) Richardson worked his way into the Monyhull defence his shot was blocked and he rose to head ball home. A great reward for his hard work. Lighthouse midfield were well on top now and Steve Kite was running the show with his vision and flair. A through ball from Steve found Dean Millward and nothing was going to stop him scoring his third 7-0. Marcus McLaren came on for the last 20 mins to run at Monyhull and it was from one of these runs Dean Millward latched onto and scored his fourth 8-0 .
This was a great display today every one worked hard for each other and were determined to fight for every ball. Knile Taylor training methods are beginning to pay dividends. Monhull never gave up today and were first class in their approach to the game and their respect they have to their manager and captain . Wish them all the best for season, as for Lighthouse Maple Leaf next week another trip into the unknown.
Man of Match: Dean Millward (unplayable)
