Hamilton went into the game unbeaten and come away form the game unbeaten. FACT!
The boys went into the game full of confidence and expecting to win against a team they have beaten comfortably twice this season and yet they were matched in every department by a very inspired Wellington side determined not to be rolled over again.
With the midfield battle being won by Welly Hamilton just could`nt get into the game. Lee Smart being the only midfielder out of the 3 central midfielders who shone out in the first half with his battling spirit and important challenges.
The game was a mighty tussle in midfield throughout with both teams evenly matching each other in goal attempts, however, Hamilton did have the more clear cut goal attempts and would have bben upset not going in 1v0 up.
The weather was hideous throught the whole game.
The second half continued in the same way with just snatched shots from both sides. On the 65th minute Hamilton made a tactical sub in bringing fans favourite Aston Radford off for Chris Hale and then on the 70th minute Matt Lindsay for Dave Hardie and Seb Kapral for Luke Perry, whilst swapping Howard Radford out of goal for Seba. Chris began to take the game to Welly with his pace and power, however, on the 75th minute sub Dave Hardie cleared the ball out for a corner. The kicker mis kicked the ball but Nathan Thomas reacted quickest, losing his marker before hammering the ball into the roof of the net 0v1. Devastating for Hamilton- nerves jangling they restarted and kept pushing on when on the 74th minute Jamie Fleet rashjly lunged through James Osborne on the halfway line. The resulting free kick seen Wellington heroe Nathan Thomas incredibly push Lee Smart to give away a penalty. After a long wait the coolest man on the pitch Martyn Hawkins stepped up and dispatched the ball into the net 1v1.
The game then played itself out for the draw Hamilton needed to become the 2012/13 Div 2 Champions.
