Big match for Western today against a top premier league side. The game started and both teams seemed really calm on the ball and some great passing football was on show. The first 10 minutes of the game lacked any action around either goal but it seemed that each team were trying to suss each other out. Goodyears played alot of long diagonal balls but Western defence dealt with each and every one. A long ball was played towards the corner by Goodyear and a half decent clearance was made and Western seemed happy to see the ball out for a corner, as this was happening a Goodyear player ran in front of Phil Elwell and their legs tangled as they crossed paths neither player really knew where each other was but the ref decided to award a penalty to the surprise of nearly everyone. One of the worst decisions ever made. The Goodyear player took the penalty and struck the post and Western were slow to follow up but the Goodyear players werent and he finished the rebound. An undeserved goal to take Goodyears the lead. Western battled hard throughout the first half and saw more of the possession but the better chances fell to Goodyears but they failed to beat Rob Taylor who was definately frustrating them, saving everything they had to give him. The first half drew to and end and Western were not too downhearted but just felt cheated. Second half kicked off and Western were fired up. They pinned Goodyears back for a long time but just could not break down the Goodyears defence. Goodyears had to take all the counter attacks and they countered well. Once again Rob Taylor proving his worth between the sticks making some more cracking saves. Taylor also receieved a booking in the midst of all this for dissent and a Goodyear player also had his name taken for a discusting foul on Brad Allen which was lucky not to have seen a red. Western continued to play further up the pitch and won a free kick on the corner of the 18 yard box. The ball was floated in and James Baker got the flick with his head towards goal and it managed to find its way through all the players and find the net. A well deserved equaliser. Western suffered another shocking refereeing decision shortly after this when Rob Taylor committed a silly foul and the ref decided he had to be the main man again and show him a second yellow. He then had a power trip and ordered Western to change their lines man. Western managed to hang on and took the game into extra time. The extra man really showed in extra time as Western were tiring aswell. They really pushed forward and found the goal they had pushed for after 10 mins. The second half of extra time got under way and the ref was notified of an opposing player in the Western half at the kick off , he looked and decided to ignore it, from this they managed to get a 3rd goal. Western defence did as well as they could but were being taken on by 5 attacking players. The game finished 3 - 1 a.e.t. Fantastic performance by Western, against a good oppostion. Unfortunately the game was spoilt bythe Wolverhampton sunday league's top referee and now awarded the title of THE worst referee most people have ever come across. Western felt robbed but at the same time can be proud of their performance.
