GWPFC kicked on from last weeks 0-0 with a confident attacking performance.
Enforced changes to the front two saw Selfie partner E-Lie, supported by the pace and trickery of Limpit and Jam on the wings.
GWPFC started on the front foot, with E-Lie's pace and movement causing early problems for the Checkendon back four.
It didn't take long for Limpit to expose the right back's lack of pace with a blistering run from his own half, E-Lie duly despatched the resulting cross.
The link up play between GWPFC's front two and midfield continued to cause problems but it was Checkendon who scored next. GWPFC failed to clear a corner and the Chekendon striker finished smartly from the edge of the box.
Checkendon scored another just before half time, when the GWPFC defence was split by a through ball for the striker to slot home (I don't actually know if this happened or not, but it sounds about right)
The game was perfectly poised at 2-1 at half time.
GWPFC started the second half much like they did the first, the ball was played out from the back to Jam on the right, whose long through ball was finished at the second attempt by E-Lie.
Checkendon were almost immediately back in front after some hesitancy in the GWP defence.
5 minutes later E-Lie completed his hattrick and got Great Western back on level terms. Not sure how it happened exactly, but I'm betting it involved Limpit, a run, a cross, some pace and a shanked attempt at goal.
The introduction of the Artist Formerly Known As Gary Goalscorer into a midfield 3 gave GWP a stronger foothold in the centre of the park and he had an immediate impact when E-Lie did something, again probably involving running, pace, shanking efforts, shoddy crossing or a combination of all of the above, before setting Gary free one-on-one with the keeper, where he finished like a proper striker despite his dishevelled appearance.
Great Western Park extended their lead further and with some style, when the ball was worked from the back to the left wing, where Limpit's lofted through ball landed into the stride of E-Lie's perfectly timed run who nonchantly lofted the ball over the advancing keeper and into the top corner (ish).
Checkendon then proceeded to throw caution to the wind and the kitchen sink at Great Western with an all out attacking assault for the last ten minutes. Their gung-ho approach was rewarded in the 85th minute when they pulled a goal back to set up a frantic last 5 minutes.
Despite the loud, vocal instructions from the touchline Jam and then Gary proceeded to ignore sense and take the ball into the corner and instead crossed the ball to the Checkendon centre backs, who duly launched the ball forward to the forward who, thinking that he was as good as E-Lie, lofted the ball over Craig Greenbrook in the GWP goal, but the ball bounced off the top of the bar and out for a goalkick.
After his clinical and lively performance, E-Lie was unanimously named man of the match.
