First cup game for the season for The Rose, and with the noise of Ingis' leg still ringing in the players ears, the lads arrived at snipe, confident to start of well in the cup competition against a side from the top division who we didn't know much about.
When the opposition finally arrived with five minutes to the scheduled kick off time The Rose were warmed up and ready to get going
The Rose started on the front foot and had Lowerhouse backing off to the goal constant for the beginning of the game, the first breakthrough come from a 25 yard free kick that Mark Terris stepped up and curled confidently round the wall leaving the keeper stranded in the middle of his goal, the game continued with The Rose on the front foot and Lowerhouse were all over the show at the back and on the 16th minute with some good work down the left hand side from Darren Dunleavy battled his way past the right back and crossed the ball over to the back post with the outside of his boot and Macca volleyed home from an acute angle taking the game to two nil, nothing more than The Rose deserved.
Lowerhouse tried to pull their socks up and get something from the game but The Rose back four were solid and other then long balls over the top they didn't come close to creating any clear chances and Andy Morrissey in The Rose goal must of been the most bored player on the pitch, on to the 30th minute and following a good bit of attacking player from The Rose midfield up stepped Mark Terris on the edge of the Lowerhouse box and bent the ball to the far right top corner again leaving the keeper with no chance and sending The Rose into a three nil lead.
One of The Rose's best players so far this season final got his reward for recent performances following a Tez corner he had a few pops at it and finally slashed the ball home on the 37th minute and Lee "Scanny" Scanlon had got his first goal of the season, he then decided to upstage Dunleavy's goal celebration with his impression of a cheshire cat to so his joy!! There were a few other half chances in the half but nothing too threatening for Lowerhouse, but overall a great first 45 minutes for The Rose.
No changes at half time and onto the second half although The Rose felt the game was already wrapped up, they started on the front foot again looking for a fifth, there were a few more chances earlier on falling to Michael Hoggard but it just wasn't to be and he was unlucky to not get his first Rose goal. A few changes were made and on come Lil Oggy and Watson for his first competitive game of the season, both settled in well and The Rose were constant
Had it not been for the referee thinking he was a train station controller The Rose might have had a hat more of goals but he blew for every offside he could, only other moment of the night was the ridiculous yellow cards handed to a few Rose players, the worst of which was for Anthony Horrox who asked the ref if he had to blow his whistle, scandalous.
Nothing could spoil The Rose's first proper display off the season, again strong performances all round and a great win now onto the county cup next Sunday at The Cathedral against Nello James from the Manchester Sunday Amateur League.
