This fixture comes twice a season for the lions and its the first the lads look for when the fixtures come out. With the Lions travelling to their local rivals Youlgreave, manager Dean Concannon returned from his business trip to discuss the vacant England job following big Sams dismissal. They wanted big dean instead.Wearing their new away kit the lions welcomed back Liam Ashton and Jay Roose. Ash Dooley came in for Gaz Whitworth. Joe Wraggmoved to a more central position while Dooley started wide right. Concannon selected the same back line as at Baslow and Richard Askewkept his place after an impressive display last week.
The Lions started the game a little nervy and looked a little rocky. With the home side adding on the pressure it looked all of a matter of time until the lions would concede however it wasnt to be. It was the lions who would grab the 1st goal with no other than Richard Askew to bag again. the 2nd goal of the game went to the lions also which to be fair could have gone either way. The white kanu Jon Cooper grabbed the second and cant stop finding the net.ten minutes later the lions went 3-0 up when they successfully defended a corner when jon cooper headed clear to go the length of the pitch to assist Joe wragg for Darleys third.
The home side pushed to get themselves back in the game but top draw saves from Daniel Insley kept the gap at 3. With 15 minutes to go till half time Youlgreave did get one back as a ball that come over the top caught out the back line and the keeper aswell and the forward placed the ball over the keeper into the net.The lions had to see Sam Wragg come off due to injury and replaced by Roose HT 1-3.
In the second half the home side started sronger peppering Insleys goal but fine saves stopped the come back happening. The fine duties of Richard askew, Matthew Appleby and joe wragg in the middle saw the lions give as good as it gets. Wingers Ash Dooley and Jordan Watts continued to get in behind the backline causing hassle but couldnt add to the tally. With half an hour left Concannon turned to the bench to give Martin Travis a run out after he finally woke from his long sleep underneath the potatoes in Sainsburys. He replaced Dooley and Wragg pushed out wide. Watts was also replaced by Liam Ashton on the left playing in front of older brother Mark Ashton. The home side grabbed one back to make it 2-3 with 15 mins to go,The lions had one last late effort as Parsley volleyed from 20 yards out but couldnt find either side of the keeper, however the back line of Mark Ashton, Jay Roose , Ryan Parsley and Jake Hodkin defended brilliantly to hold out
