With several players injured including Roker & Josh, and with a couple of key players unable to play in this game, it was always going to a hard fought game. Although I was only there for the first half, I was not impressed with the way the Crown approached the game, I'm not sure if they were still smarting from the midweek defeat, but there seemed to be a lack of everything. There were key moments but the Crown let themselves down badly, the only compensation is due to being knocked out in the first round, the Crown will automatically be entered into the Observer Shield, let us hope we can put up a better showing than today's!
One bright spark was the penalty scored by Dale Badge which was won by John Young's determination to win the ball after a bad tackle by the opposition defence!

ANOTHER DAY AT THE OFFICE WELL SO IT SEEMED,, THE CROWN GEARED UP AND READY FOR THE CHALLENGE AGAINST DIVISION 1 SIDE GRENDON FC. WITH A FEW PLAYERS MISSING DUE TO INJURY AND BEER (SHAME ON YOU!) THE MORNING HAD STARTED WITH A RELATIVELY FAIR SIDE ON THE PITCH. A FAIRY DEFENCE, A FAIR MIDFIELD. A FAIR (NO BRUNETTES) IN THE ATTACKING LINE AND SOMEONE IN GOALS, THE CROWN STARTED WITH PACE LOOKING AS IF THEY COULD DO SOME DAMAGE, TWO OR THREE ATTACKS WITH ALOT OF AGRESSION... THIS GOT GRENDON WORRIED SO WE THOUGHT LETS MAKE IT INTERESTING AND THE CROWN GAVE THEM A GOAL TO MAKE THIER MORNING.
THE CROWN TRIED TO ATTACK AND AT TIMES BUT ALAS TO NO AVAIL, THE BALL JUST WOULDNT STAY WITH THE CROWN SO RATHER THAN GIVE IT ANOTHER GO THE CROWN DECIDED TO GIVE THE BALLAWAY AGAIN! A PARRY FROM STEVE 'FLU' LONG IN GOALS AND BOSH IT WAS 2-0 IT WAS ALWAYS GOING TO HAPPEN , THE CROWN EVENTUALLY GOT THE BALL AND DECIDED TO ATTACK AND TO OUR TOTAL SURPRISE, JOHN YOUNG WAS IN THE 18 YARD BOX, WHEN THE WHISTLE WENT FOR A PENALTY (WE ACTUALLY THOUGH IT WAS FOR A NOSE BLEED!) DALE BADGE STEPS UP TO CALMLY TO PUT IT AWAY 2-1 THANK GOD THE HALF TIME WHISTLE WENT.
AFTER A HALF TIME RANTING AND RAVING AKA THE SWEDISH CHEIF (TELLING OFF), FROM THE MANAGER NEIL BADGE THE CROWN WENT BACK ON THE PITCH AND PLAYED EVEN WORSE THAN THE FIRST HALF, JUST GOES SHOW "THAT THINGS CAN ONLY GET WORSE", THE CROWN COULDENT PASS A PARCEL OR EVEN PASS THE DUTCHIE FROM EITHER SIDE, AND STEVE IN GOALS COULDNT CATCH A COLD! THE MANAGER THOUGHT HES WAS DRACULA FOR HE SEEMED SO AFRAID OF EVERY CROSS! EVEN CARNY ADMITED HE COULDNT KICK A BALL , HEAD OR RUN AND HE WASNT A CENTRE HALF AND THAT HE'S A FORWARD, GRENDON HEARD THIS AND USED THIS TO THEIR ADVANTAGE HITTING GOAL AFTER GOAL!
RUNNING AT STEVE TO THE CRIES OF SHIT, OH NO!, AND NOT AGAIN! EVENTUALLY GRENDON HIT THE CROWN FOR SIX , BUT LET US ALL REMEMBER IT'S NOT THE WINNING IT'S THE TAKING PART, IT'S THE THOUGHT OF TIGHT SHORTS AND ROKER'S HISTORY LESSONS ALONG WITH THE LOVELY FOOD AT THE CROWN.... BAHHHH
MOM - STEVE 'FLU' LONG FOR HIS PERSITANT RUNNING AND FETCHING OF THE BALL FROM BEHIND THE GOALS, AND LETS NOT FORGET STEVE ACTUALLY RAN MORE THAN ANY OTHER PLAYER...
