Another great week of training and preparation set Pegasus Reserves up nicely for a home tie against Stanion Reserves. The current league form would suggest this game was going to be a walkover but the opening 15 minutes proved to be very different. Both teams battled hard and well as they each looked to grab an early foothold of the game. A couple of early chances fell to Stanion after some dipping passes into the penalty area but these were dealt with by the Pegasus defence. The first goal came in the 18th minute when some neat play down the right hand flank allowed Sinky to play a clever through ball to Thomo who rounded the keeper and passed the ball into the side net to continue his current devastating goal scoring form. 5 minutes later Pegasus added a second after a defence spliiting pass from Anthony Underwood found Andy Kyle who coolly slotted to ball in the corner. Pegasus then found their rhythm and began to cause Stanion some serious problems. Unfortunately the many chances that were being created were squandered leaving Stanion a lifeline. 10 minutes before half time, Pegasus added a 3rd goal after Scott McBlain made a charging run down the right flank and played a perfectly weighted cross into the box which Sinky smartly headered into the corner of the goal. A couple more chances fell to Pegasus just before half time, but again, these were not converted and the score remained 3-0 going into Half Time. Some reassurances were given at half time to ensure Pegasus didnt throw away a comfortable lead or allow the opposition back into the game like the previous match against Bugbrooke. The second half began and the doubts were quickly put to bed as Pegasus began strong and again created a couple of chances. Then in the 55th minute, the game was firmly put to bed as Thomo added his second of the day after another assist from Sinky. Then 5 minutes later, Thomo picked the ball up from Sinky on the half way line and ran at the Stanion bodies in front of him. He eased passed a handful of them and then rounded the keeper and slotted the ball home in expert fashion to complete a well deserved hat trick. At 5-0 the game began to slow down, the pitch was heavy which had a huge effect on the pace of the game and Stanion were well and truly beaten. Credit to some of the lads who had the heart to keep plugging away but they still couldnt find a way through a resolute Pegasus backline. Changes were made from Pegasus to freshen things up and to try and inject some pace into the game but the game continued and ended in a dull fashion. 5-0 the final score. Given Stanion's current situation i feel they can take some huge positives from the opening period of the match. On a different day their early chances may have went in which would have made a massive difference to the way the game played out. Huge credit to the Pegasus Reserves lads. They had a job to do and went about it in a brilliant manner. They continue their great run of form and can go into the next match full of confidence. Man of the Match for the game was Lee Thomson, few would disagree that he was unplayable at times. A hat trick and a nuisance for the 65 minutes he was on the park.
