Away league match played on 08 February 2025.
Kicked off at 2:00 PM

In a commanding display, Appley Bridge secured a resounding 6-0 victory over Cherrybrook FC in a league match held at The Bridge on 8th February 2025. The match kicked off at 2:00pm, and the unbeaten league leaders were hoping to continue their good form in the local derby clash.

Cherrybrook FC lined up in a 3-4-2-1 formation as this had proved successful in recent weeks.

However, from the outset, Appley Bridge demonstrated their intent, scoring their first goal just two minutes into the match. The centre forward turning Lewis Barlow inside the box and striking a well-placed effort found the back of the net, sending an early warning to Cherrybrook. The home side continued to press, and by the 13th minute, they had doubled their lead with another close-range finish, leaving Cherrybrook reeling.

As the game progressed, Appley Bridge maintained their relentless attack, scoring a third goal in the 20th minute. It was one way traffic with the visitors struggling to get into the game.

Lee Nealen had seen enough and switched to a back four to try and stem the tide and get a better shape to the team.

But Cherrybrook's defence struggled to cope with the mounting pressure, and it was evident that they were in for a challenging afternoon. The first half saw Cherrybrook's Harvey Brooks receive a yellow card for persistent infringements in the 40th minute, a reflection of the frustration building within the team.

Just before the half-time whistle, Appley Bridge struck again, netting their fourth goal in the 41st minute. The scoreline at half-time was a daunting 4-0, and Cherrybrook faced an uphill battle in the second half.

The second half began with a tactical substitution for Cherrybrook as Alex Schofield replaced Harrison Fleming. However, Cherrybrook's woes continued as Schofield received a yellow card for dissent shortly after the break in the 55th minute and was sin-binned for 10 minutes.

In the 58th minute, Appley Bridge were awarded a penalty after a lunging challenge from Joey Libertini, which they converted with ease, extending their lead to 5-0. Cherrybrook's attempts to regroup were further hampered when Jack Thorogood was substituted for Daniel Morris in the 63rd minute, as the team sought to inject fresh energy into their performance.

Despite Cherrybrook's efforts to salvage some pride, Appley Bridge remained in control, and in the 80th minute, they sealed their emphatic victory with a sixth goal. The match concluded with Cherrybrook FC left to reflect on a disappointing afternoon, while Appley Bridge celebrated a comprehensive win that showcased their attacking prowess and tactical superiority.

All in all a very disappointing performance from the Cherries after a promising recent run.

Referee David Biggs managed the match with a performance that was adequate but not without its moments of controversy, as evidenced by the number of cards issued throughout the game. The attendance of 50 spectators witnessed a one-sided affair that will linger in the memories of those who came to support Cherrybrook FC.
