Not for the first time this season United made such hard work of defeating a team when it should have been a comfortable victory. United were missing a number of key players but still took the lead within 30 seconds after Steve New broke into the box and rolled the ball across the 6 yard area for Dymock to slam the ball past the Barometrics keeper. United continued to press and were rewarded with a second goal when Dymock squared the ball for Steve New to finish in a goal that was almost a carbon copy of the first. Barometrics then pulled a goal back against the run of play when thier player broke into the box following some sloppy tracking which allowed him to finish when one on one. United restored thier 2 goal advantage when a ball into the box from Lawrence when 10 yards inside the oppositions half was headed home by Steve New for his second. Barometrics protested to the referee furiously claiming the player had punched the ball into the net but the decision stood. This caused Barometrics to lose thier heads and they were lucky to get away with a few nasty challenges which on another day would have brought bookings. Steve New was tackled from behind in the box in what Barometrics claimed was a dive and Steve New then went back at the player with a tackle with both feet off the floor. The Barometrics goalkeeper then ran 30 yards to grab hold of the Utd player and an altercation broke out involving most of the United team. When the dust had settled United were disgusted to see that Steve New had been red carded and the Barometrics keeper had been allowed to stay on the pitch although he had caused the altercation by running from his goalmouth. United were shellshocked by this and an uncharacteristic defensive mistake from Meadows allowed Barometrics to make it 3-2. United gradually got back on thier game and were awarded a penalty which top scorer Lawrence stepped up to slot in for the last action of the half after Dymock had been felled in the box, United 4-2 up.
The second half was a cagey and open affair which Barometrics will feel agrieved not to have ended up with a draw as they missed two one on ones when thier player went through on goal and twice fired hopelessly wide. United responded with a couple of efforts from just inside the box from Lawrence that were saved and an outrageous flying volley from Gilbert from a corner that had goal written all over it until the keeper made a great last ditch save. Barometrics did finally get a goal in dubious fasion as for all purposes thier striker seemed offside when he scored but it fell on deaf ears. 4-3. The game continued to be end to end with the United backline of Les Harper, Martyn New, Meadows and Surman standing firm with good support from midfield where Jeal was having a brilliant game. The final action of the game saw Bryon Marriott, on for the injured Jeal break down the left before squaring the ball to the tireless Brookes who rushed his shot and sliced the ball wide with just the keeper to beat. Man of the match was ASH Jeal for a fantastic display in midfield.
