A much-needed result and performance, after the match with Enfield.
We started with vigour and went ahead after just 2 minutes, thanks to a high ball from the right played in by Melanie.
This was followed by a 15-minute period of intense pressure on our part, which bore no further score, mostly because of our wastefulness in front of goal, or our inability not to fall foul of the offside rule.
British Airways managed to equalize in the 20’ minute, against the run of play. Our central midfielders failed to pick an opponent coming through the middle, who collected the ball and placed it to the right side of Maame.
This was followed by another period of pressure by our girls, again characterized by our inability to translate pressure into goals.
Charlie Douglas came on for Maame in the 25th minute, and ten minutes after that Eleasia finally managed to find the net with a solo run from the left and an accurate finish.
After this, we were in complete control of the game and after a few more near misses Thaisa managed to find the net with a half-volley from the edge of the penalty area, which ended in the top corner to the right of the goal-keeper (can’t beat Brazilians for spectacular goals!).
The pressure was kept on in the 2nd half, which produced an own goal by British Airways goal-keeper (48’), followed by another Melanie goal, following a good assist by Sophie Balaam.
Melanie completed her scoring in the 85th minute, scoring straight from a drop kick by Charlie and then scoring again in the dying seconds, from a corner taken by Shelly.
All in all, a decent performance, with Tooting playing good passing football for reasonable periods of time. Must work on finishing!
