The first half of Super Sunday saw the 60s also take on Woodchurch in the league. This was the first time that our 60s had faced Woodchurch in the league and both sides probed initially without really penetrating. There were a few shots from distance but Jan was equal to them.

Woodchurch grew into the game and started to play the better football. They were using the width better and were regularly attacking down both flanks. We on the other hand were struggling to keep our shape and started to get more and more narrow. We went behind to an attack down their left that saw the ball played in from wide to their centre forward who sent a shot into the the top corner not giving Jan a chance.

One soon became two with a similar move resulting in the same outcome.

After this we improved and really started to play better. Our movement improved and held our shape. Rupert found space on the left and his low cross was met collected by Mike who beat his man and fire a low hard shot into the corner. We continued to push buoyed on by the goal but this was leaving us exposed in midfield. Woodchurch managed to exploit the space and got a break away third almost straight away.

Rupert was enjoying the space wide on our right and he picked up the ball and drove at their defence he cut inside the defender and struck a low shot passed their keeper only to be pulled back for a running offence, Unfortunately, this was double jeopardy as that took us to 4 running offences and we went from thinking we had scored to facing a penalty. This was duly despatched and we went in 1-4 down but that was somewhat flattering to Woodchurch. They were the better side and deserved the lead but not by 3 goals.

After a change of personnel and formation tweak, the second half started as we had finished the first attacking. Mike was getting more and more space and we held our formation wide. We got a deserved second again when we were awarded a penalty after they committed their fourth running offence with Mike duly despatching the spot kick.

A third followed soon afterwards when Rupert found space and cut inside his defender and sent his shot low and hard passed their keeper.

We continued to push to try and get the illusive fourth that we probably now deserved but it wasn't coming. Their keeper made a string of saves and as we pushed we left ourselves open to counter attack and one such foray saw them score a fifth and final goal from their left.

Despite our best efforts, their defence held out and the game ended in defeat for us 3 - 5. We had struggled in the first half but had left ourselves too much to do to recover and despite being the better team in the second half we couldn't turn it around.

Every player gave their all and rightly receive my thanks for the way they turned this around.

My thanks also to Steve P and Cedric who were unused substitutes but remained poised and ready to come on.

Additionally, thank you to the other players that offered additional encouragement and guidance from the side lines and their input at half time.

Finally many thanks to the friends, family and club members that gave up their Sunday lunchtime to come and watch the game.

The POTM was Rupert.
