BRIGHOUSE THROUGH TO SEMI FINALS
Brighouse stormed into the shield semi final, with a strong display to overcome a plucky Harrogate side.
In a match that had to be played at Tingley, after the game had been postponed six times, both teams looked rusty in the opening exchanges with Brighouse playing their first game since December 14th.
Brighouse took the lead after 12mins when Ashley tapped in after great work from Alex left her with an open goal.Brighouse continued to dominate possesion, and Emily was unlucky not to score with just the keeper to beat the ball bobbled up and she mishit her shot well wide.
HALF TIME HARROGATE 0-1 BRIGHOUSE
Manager Richard Monday asked for the girls to step it up in the second half, which they did,and on the hour Tanita Cowell,on her debut turned smartly on the edge of the box and fired under the keeper.Five minutes later Brighouse were 3 up,Ellie played a through ball to Ash and she slipped it easily past the advancing keeper.
After 69 mins Harrogate scored with their only attempt on goal, but what a cracker it was,a tweny-five yard shot into the top corner that deceived not only keeper Amy,but also the ref who seemed suprised that it went in!!!!!
This stung Brighouse into action and Alex,Ellie,Emily,Danni, and Jess took control of the midfield, and defenders Kim,Chloe,Olivia, and Nicki took care of any danger to give Amy a quiet match in goal, and it was not long before Ashley completed her hat-trick at the second attempt after the keeper saved her initial shot.
In the last minute, forwards Kennedy and Tanita set up Ash to finish the scoring and send Brighouse into the semi finals where they will play Harrogate Railway.
After the match Richard said the team did well on a difficult bobbly pitch, but he was delighted with Nicki's performance at centre half and also Tanita's first match for the team was superb. FINAL SCORE HARROGATE TOWN 1-5 BRIGHOUSE
