9 IS FINE FOR BREWER FC
This weekend’s game saw Brewer FC take on new comers to the league Sawford Heath in what proved to a routine win which saw Brewer put in a fantastic shift and come out more than worthy 9-0 winners.
Good went with the same 11 that started last week in the game which ended being abandoned because of Daniel Moran’s injury knowing that if nothing else the squad would want to put in a shift and get the points for him.
Unlike the last 2 games Brewer flew out the blocks playing some superb 2 touch football and creating a host of early chances which fell to Cox, Reed and Field but none of them could convert with Reed and Field being denied by 2 smart saves from the Sawford keeper. The pressure and good football from Brewer eventually paid off when Reed toe poked a pass through to Bush who calmly dispatched the ball to make it 1-0.
At this point it looked like Sawford were there for the taking and all Brewer had to do was continue the game in the same fashion they had started it. This was not the case however and for some reason they dropped off looking more than happy to sit on their well-earned 1-0 lead. The next 15mins saw the Brewer FC defence come under pressure however with Honour and Felstead lead by Sutton they looked more than comfortable with anything which Sawford could throw at them, holding a good line and catching the lone Sawford FC striker offside on numerous occasions. Sawford followed this up with 3 successive corners however the Brewer FC backline would not break especially with keeper Hatton looking to be in no mood to concede.
Then all of a sudden 5 minutes before half time Brewer then changed up a couple of gears once more and with a brilliant 5 pass move between Calder, Field, Felton and Reed, Cox found himself through on goal only to be taken down from behind and earn a penalty which he then dispatched with great-a-plom in to the roof of the net. This goal no doubt changed Good’s halftime talk for the best with the Gaffer knowing he still had some quality on the bench at his disposal if need be.
To Good’s surprise however the 2nd half started sloppily for Brewer with Sawford having a couple of long range attempts, Sawford then created their best chance of the game only to be denied by a world class, last ditch block from Felstead which in turn lead to a fantastic counter attack finished off by Field, 3-0 Brewer and things looking ominous for Sawford Heath.
At this point Good decided to go for the throat bringing on the pacey Jiggins for Felton and skilful Portuguese winger Paulinho for Bailey moving first goal scorer Bush in to the middle of the park.
Brewer were now full of confidence and they could smell blood, playing at a vicious tempo putting Sawford to the sword. It didn’t take long for Jiggins to notch up his 2nd goal of the season after for pressure which saw him tuck away a simple header 4-0. This was soon to be followed up by a decent 25 yard volley from Calder which fizzed through the keepers outstretched hands in to the bottom corner - 5-0!
At this point it is worth mentioning that despite all or Brewer FC’s great attacking talent the back 3 and keeper had been superb and assisted Brewer’s attacks by playing some good football from the back, feeding the wingers and creative midfielders. This leads on to the 6th goal which resulted from a fantastic long free kick for Sutton straight in to the path of Cox who nodded it over the on-rushing keeper for his 2nd goal of the game.
After this Good rung more changes bringing Bailey back in to the fray along with Croft and (the now fit again) Watts who was hungry to get in on the goal scoring action for captain Reed.
It didn’t take long for Watts to get on the score sheet thanks to some magical skill from Jiggins who left the full-back for dead and rounded the keeper to square it for Watts, who from around a yard out just about managed to put the ball in to the roof of the net for 7-0.
Keen to not be out done by his fellow winger, Paulinho wanted to show what he could do, cutting inside, turning again and feeding in Cox for his hat-trick (on another day Cox could’ve had his hat-trick in the first half had he been more clinical) 8-0 Brewer! 5 minutes later this was followed up with some more scintillating football which was again capped off with another penalty for Cox, which was once again smashed passed the Sawford Heath keeper but this time low and hard in to the bottom corner 9-0.
The final bit of action saw the Brewer FC defence breached for the 1st time in the game late on but Hatton produced a smart 1 on 1 save to earn him and his defence a clean sheet to cap off a memorable day for everyone involved with Brewer FC.
The train is now running at full tilt and no doubt Brewer FC will want to continue at this pace next week against Albury Saints. Bring it on!
