Bishops won the Sean Horgan cup in a cup final that had it all, and continue Whitnash's ghastly record in cup finals, leaving the current trophy-ometer at BIFC 9 - 0 Whitnash since 2008.
BIFC recalled Adam Trinder, Seb to the starting line and Mills to the bench in the absence of Whitey, Maltby and Benno.
BIFC played with the ferocious wind at their backs in the first half, and should of been ahead with less than a minute played. A Whitnash goalkick barely made 35 yards and was headed back towards goal by a black and white shirt. Coops read the mistake and lobbed the keeper to put us into the lead....or at least he did if the laws of the game had been adhered to. For some reason the linesman was the only person in Kineton who couldn't see the ball was headed by a defending player, and ruled Coops offside. Normally you would expect the ref to over-rule his lino in such circumstance, but these two seem twinned by stupidity on this occasion. Whitnash couldn't really get out their half and it was just a matter before we scored. Coops had headed wide and shot tamely with his left before the opener came. Nath's clipped ball over the top saw Cooper turn the defence and this time lob home without a flag being raised by a porky arm, 1-0! However, for all the dominance we didn't add another one before the half and Nath was called upon to make a good stop with his feet from Jamie Goode. Half time 1-0!
The second half started in the best possible way as we increased our lead in the first few minutes. Jordan took on the left back and whipped in a low cross which the centre half converted before Coops could get to it, own goals are worth the same so 2-0! It was then our turn to take the strain for a good chunk of the game as 'nash took advantage of the elements. Nath made a great save from a thunderous long range effort destined for the top corner, before eventually they got one. A soft long range free kick from Blockhead slipped under Nathan for 2-1! and not too long after a long throw was left by everyone in a green shirt and the ball was headed home for 2-2!
During all this the game had got a good spiky edge, encapsulated best when Bishops legend Rosie Holloway breached the security and got on the pitch to point fingers and make noises in the direction of the Whitnash centre half. Good stuff Rosie!!
Jordan had tow good chances to seal the game in normal time but the keeper made one save,and the other effort was dragged wide, so to penalties we went;
Cooper- smashed high into top left of goal, 1-0
Blockhead - scored low left, 1-1
Adam Trinder - scored low left 2-1
Urktwat - MISSED, MISSED MISSED MISSED - Super Nath blocked with his legs
Bear - scored high left and thrashed the rebounded ball home injuring himself in process 3-1
Centre Half - Nath gets a hand low right but ball sneaks in 3-2
Matt Trinder - Scored low left 4-2
Jones - Blazed over , BIFC WIN!!
Joey collected the cup in the absence of Benno.
Shocking decision by officials, mini pitch invasion by a monster, four goals, decent crowd and penalty shoot out..you don't get that with Westela - Cricketers. Division 2 is where it's at!!
