Should be remembered for Mindy v Caythorpe XI punch up.....fight fight fight!

Baston 4 – 2 Caythorpe (After Extra Time)

Baston made hard work of a game that should have been won after an hour.

Baston dominated from the first kick, and had countless chances to take the lead. Bullivant, Rawlinson and Hudson should have done better with chances, whilst Andy Moss struck the crossbar and post in the first 20 minutes.

Baston finally took the lead on 35 minutes; Jon Howard’s curled ball was headed down by Ben Hudson into the path of Ross O’Loughlin, who took a touch before burying the ball past the keeper to give them a 1-0 lead. Baston continued to put the pressure on but couldn’t add to their score before half time.

Baston carried on where they left off in the second half, and doubled their advantage shortly after the break, with Ross O’Loughlin finding Captain Simon Ward in the box who put the ball past the keeper for 2-0.

A change of tactics and personnel seemed to stop Baston playing their style and gave Caythorpe a boost as they grew into the game, and started holding a lot more of the possession. Caythorpe struck an unlikely consolation as their dwarf striker ran through and put the ball past Clarke. Caythorpe dramatically equalised with 10 minutes left. Davies played a suicidal cross field ball across the defense which gave Clarke no chance as the Caythorpe strikers passed the ball around him to level the scores.

With tensions running high, the game went to extra time. Fortunately Caythorpe’s fitness seemed to diminish as the home side retook the advantage in the tie with top scorer Craig Bullivant latching onto a clearance and volleying past the keeper. It was the same player who scored in the final few minutes, converting substitute James Ward’s cross to make it 4-2 and put Baston into the next round.

Baston will face Premier Division Croxton AFC in the next round on the 26th March.
