First game in their new league and these kids were very excitable indeed. So much so that the first 10-15 minutes saw the ball given away a multitude of times which were clearly down to nerves, unfortunately this all coming to an ugly head with a feeble back pass from the stone cold left back Cresswell, Marsh Gibbons "big lad" up top dispatched across the Dynamos GK into the far corner of the goal, a nice finish. The Dynamoles(lol) grew into the game but it was clear with 30 minutes gone that Marsh Gibbon wanted this game and were on any weak touch or pass in a flash. Some nice play from Aylesbury down the left resulted in the ball being played out wide right to Salter who faked the cross into the box, dragged the ball back and played the ball square to Spud on the right corner of the area. Whilst Salter was going for the old one two, Spud had other ideas, took a touch and cleverly laced the ball up and over the MONSTER between the sticks, the ball finishes top of the opposite corner of the goal, a superb finish, 1-1, game on. No more than 5 minutes later and things were again weighted into Marsh Gibbons favour after another defensive error. Marshes right winger cuts inside, attempts a diag through ball but its misplaced and rolls straight to the Love Island worthy contestant at the heart of the Aylesbury Vale defence HJ who attempts to control – didn’t your school teacher tell you “always plant your foot behind the ball when attempting to control it!!” obviously NOT, the ball rolls straight under his foot to the very gracious partner of the chunky chap, and he finishes the 1on1 coolly and calmly, 2-1. 10 minutes plus injury left in the half and Vale push on but just can not beat the giant keeper of the home team – first making saves from Fellows low down to his right then catching a flappy footed LB shot comfortably. Half time, aaaaaaand BREATHE!!!!!
Second half begins and its quite clear Marsh want to keep what they hold, it’s a case of attack vs defence for most of the half. Spud goes through 2 or 3 times, not quite 1on1’s but he would expect to finish them once fully fit, only his third game back after a 10 week lay off with a severe calf injury. Multiple goal mouth scrambles result in nothing more than mounting frustration for the men in yellow, the best of which comes down the right hand side as Gazelle Gray fires in low and hard between Goliath and his defence but no Dynamo can turn it in, CM ball player Taran(Taz, Tazzy Boy, Rat Nose) can be heard shrieking like a banshee as ANOTHER opportunity goes awry. The cougar loving GK at the other end, Niffer, has a relatively quiet half, his only worries are a lobbed cross that he seemed uncomfortable dealing with but punched away well in the end and a long kick from the opposition stopper which saw the Aylesbury netminder wait in a stance that can only be described as a 40 yard dash 3 point start, his left hand almost on the floor as if picking up his vape that he’s dropped. The ball bounces twice then he seems to snap out of whatever game the silly sod is playing, and he catches the ball. The whole half is rushed by the boys from Aylesbury as they feel the pressure to get on level terms and beyond. Marsh do, what it seems they do best after only conceding 11 goals last term and defend with every ounce of energy they have until finally a mistake is made. Dynamos lifer Matty Fellows chases a lobbed ball over the top from the receding engine in the middle Taz, to which the CB of Marsh stupidly tries to clear the ball through Fellows but clearly just kicks the striker, PEN!! Roughly 89th minute and it seems Aylesbury Vale will go home with something for all their hard work and possession in this game. Matty, who has been as clinical taking penalties as Woolard has of impregnating women, steps up with his common awkward run up – the behemoth protecting the goal barely has to move and has saved the penalty with ease, Dynamos lifer hides in his shirt at the full time whistle, Marsh on the other hand are ecstatic and mention the words “smash and grab” when shaking hands with the Vale lads. On this day the best team did not win and a lot of that can be down to the 1-man army goal keeper of Gibbons – if they can keep him fit this season, he will be an asset on par with a 30 goal a season striker. Aylesbury Vale need to pick themselves up for their next game on Tuesday 27th vs Stoke Hammond but have a welcome break this Saturday to lick their wounds.
