Today’s game saw Avonmouth take on new & unknown opponents in St Nicholas. It was a good even start but after 5 minutes Avonmouth got their customary early goal. After great play by Montel Riches, Mitch Harris collected the ball, ran at the defence & drilled his shot into the bottom left hand corner of the net. The second goal came after 12 minutes when after a cross by Harris the ball eventually fell to Riches (M) who from close to the penalty spot coolly put the ball past the keeper. With the good start Avonmouth began to play football from the back through midfield into attack. During one such move the ball went from goalkeeper Callum Davis to Lucas Tsiopani then Sam Reynolds & eventually to Jeriel Riches who hit a great shot against the bar. Following some off target shots the third goal eventually came on 23 minutes. From midfield the ball fell to Harris who from outside the box put in a great shot into the top of the net over the tall saints keeper. The fourth goal came just before half time Ryan Scott played a great ball to Charlie Parker who from just outside the box expertly chipped the advancing keeper.

After the break Avonmouth soon made it 5 – 0. Harris ran from the half way line pass the defence & put in a thunderous shot that produced a great save from the keeper, unfortunately for him the ball fell to Parker who placed the ball into the net. Avonmouth continued to play football with lots of possession and shots on goal that did not hit the target. A cross in by Scott looked to have given Parker the chance for his hat trick but at the last moment the ball eluded him. As the away side tired Avonmouth collected 2 more goals. First after the ball was played out of defence, Harris passed To Montel Riches who scored with ease. In the final minute the ball travelled from 1 side of the pitch to the other and when crossed into the box Harris was able to complete another hat trick from close in.
A good convincing win for Avonmouth who once the second goal was scored started to play with confidence passing the ball from the back via midfield to the front men. The defence well controlled by Hewlett rarely looked in trouble, however St Nicholas never gave up and continued to try & pass the ball – good luck to them for the season ahead.
