AFC Marlow got back to winning ways this morning after beating Prestwood Kites 8 - 3 at Gossmore Recreation Ground, Marlow.
AFC Marlow started the game missing a number of players and it showed in the first 25 minutes. Prestwood Kites took the lead on the half hour mark after some sloppy defending let the right winger in behind the back 4 and after rounding Callun Akerman and slotted into the empty net to make it 1-0 to Prestwood. Eric Talma then inappropriately turned into his own net after failing to clear a low cross, 2-0 Prestwood.
AFC Marlow then pulled one goal back after James Mckechnie played the ball to Matt Dutton who raced clear to finish, Adam Brooks then equalised again from a through ball from our midfield this time it was Ashley Anderson who cool as you like passed the ball through to Adam to run onto and bring AFC Marlow back into the game. The half finished at 2 a piece.
AFC Marlow made a change at half time and brought on Jamie Piekielniak for Adam Brooks.
After a strong half time team talk AFC Marlow finally woke up and started to play the ball around on the floor and within minutes took the lead when James Turner latched onto a defensive mistake and finished in style. Prestwood then went up the other end and equalised to bring the game back to 3-3. Joe Saunders then played a long ball to put James turner one on one with the keeper and after rounding the keeper slotted the ball home. James Turner then completed his hat trick by latching on to the end of a Matt Dutton pass and chipped the ball over the top of the outcoming keeper. Ashley Anderson then made it 6-3 with a header on the goal line after the keeper failed to hold the cross. James Mckechnie then side footed the ball into the space to James Turner to round the keeper for the second time and slot home. 7-3 to AFC Marlow.
Matt Weavers then replaced James Mckechnie and Andrew Dobbie replaced Matt Dutton, free Grant Oxlade to push forward into the right wing position.
With a point to prove Grant Oxlade got himself in the box and after James Turner shot/cross was dragged wide he found himself open to tap home the 8th and his first ever goal in adult football.
Man of the match was a team vote this week and the winner was James Turner for scoring 4 and assisting in 1 as well.
