Introduction
The Promotion is an amateur football league in the Netherlands. It is the lowest tier of the Dutch football league system, and is made up of 24 teams. The league is divided into two divisions, Promotion A and Promotion B. The winners of each division are promoted to the Derde Divisie, the third tier of the Dutch football league system.
History
The Promotion was founded in 2016, as a replacement for the Topklasse, which was the top tier of amateur football in the Netherlands at the time. The Topklasse was abolished due to a lack of interest from clubs, and the Promotion was created to fill the void.
Format
The Promotion is a league format, with each team playing each other team twice, once home and once away. The top two teams in each division are promoted to the Derde Divisie, while the bottom two teams in each division are relegated to the Eerste Klasse.
Promotion and relegation
The Promotion is a promotion and relegation league, meaning that teams can move up and down between the Promotion and the Eerste Klasse. The winners of each division are promoted to the Derde Divisie, while the bottom two teams in each division are relegated to the Eerste Klasse.
