Ipswich Sunday Football League
The Ipswich Sunday Football League (ISFL) is an amateur football league based in Ipswich, Suffolk, England. It was founded in 1922 and currently has over 100 teams competing in 10 divisions.
The ISFL is affiliated to the Suffolk FA and its teams compete in the Suffolk FA Sunday Shield. The league also has its own cup competitions, including the ISFL Senior Cup, ISFL Minor Cup, and ISFL Junior Cup.
History
The ISFL was founded in 1922 by a group of local football enthusiasts. The league started with just 8 teams and has since grown to over 100 teams.
The ISFL has been home to some of the best amateur footballers in Suffolk over the years. Former Ipswich Town players such as Mick Mills, Terry Butcher, and Paul Mariner all played in the ISFL before moving on to professional football.
Structure
The ISFL currently has 10 divisions, with each division having 10 teams. The top division is the Premier Division, followed by the Intermediate One, MB1, RM1, MB2, RM2, MB3, RM3, MB4, and RM4 divisions.
The teams in each division play each other twice, once at home and once away. The top team in each division at the end of the season is promoted to the next division, while the bottom team is relegated to the lower division.
Cup competitions
In addition to the league competition, the ISFL also has its own cup competitions. The most prestigious cup competition is the ISFL Senior Cup, which is open to all teams in the league.
The other cup competitions are the ISFL Minor Cup, which is open to teams in the lower divisions, and the ISFL Junior Cup, which is open to teams in the youth section of the league.
