5. Liga
The 5. Liga is the fifth tier of the Dutch football league system. It is divided into 10 regional leagues, each with 16 teams. The champions of each league are promoted to the 4. Liga, while the bottom two teams are relegated to the 6. Liga.
History
The 5. Liga was created in 1971, when the Dutch football league system was reorganized. The league was originally called the Tweede Klasse, but was renamed to the 5. Liga in 2010.
Promotion and relegation
The champions of each 5. Liga league are promoted to the 4. Liga, while the bottom two teams are relegated to the 6. Liga. There is also a playoff system for teams finishing third to sixth in each league, with the winners of the playoffs also being promoted to the 4. Liga.
Current season
The current season of the 5. Liga began in August 2023 and is scheduled to end in May 2024. The champions of each league will be promoted to the 4. Liga, while the bottom two teams will be relegated to the 6. Liga.
