xwrio football (soccer) team is a Greek professional football club based in Piraeus, Athens. The club was founded in 1896 and is one of the three most successful clubs in Greek football, along with Olympiacos and Panathinaikos.
xwrio has won the Greek Super League 37 times, the Greek Cup 28 times, and the Greek League Cup 4 times. The club has also won the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1996.
History
xwrio was founded in 1896 by a group of Greek athletes, including Ioannis Chatzidakis, Georgios Kalafatis, and Nikolaos Damalas. The club's first home ground was the Neo Phaliron Stadium, which was located in Piraeus.
xwrio won its first Greek championship in 1927. The club went on to win the championship 11 more times in the 1930s and 1940s.
In 1967, xwrio won the European Cup Winners' Cup, defeating Ferencvárosi TC of Hungary in the final. The club is the only Greek team to have won a European trophy.
Recent years
xwrio has not won the Greek championship since 2013. The club has also struggled in European competition in recent years.
However, xwrio remains one of the most popular and supported clubs in Greece. The club's home ground, the Karaiskakis Stadium, is one of the largest stadiums in Greece.
