History
Thune GOLDEN CHIEFS was founded in 1972 by a group of friends who wanted to create a football team for the local community. The team quickly rose through the ranks of the amateur leagues and, in 1980, they were promoted to the SAB League.
The team has remained in the SAB League ever since, although they have come close to promotion to the ABC Motsepe League on a number of occasions. In 2019, they finished as runners-up in the Gauteng Stream A, but they lost the promotion playoff to Benoni City.
Recent Season
Thune GOLDEN CHIEFS had a successful season in 2022-23, finishing in third place in the Gauteng Stream A. They also reached the semi-finals of the SAB League Cup, where they lost to eventual winners Witbank Spurs.
The team's top scorer this season was Ntokozo Mkhize, who scored 15 goals in all competitions. Mkhize is a young striker who has been tipped for a bright future.
Future Prospects
Thune GOLDEN CHIEFS are a well-run club with a good youth development system. They have the potential to reach the ABC Motsepe League in the near future.
