Mzayoni Football Club is a South African soccer team based in Ndwedwe, KwaZulu-Natal. The club was founded in 1975 and currently competes in the ABC Motsepe League, the third tier of South African soccer.
Mzayoni has never won a major trophy, but the club has produced a number of talented players, including Mbulelo Mabizela, who played for Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs.
History
Mzayoni Football Club was founded in 1975 by a group of local residents. The club's name is derived from the Zulu word "mzayoni", which means "the place of the strong".
Mzayoni initially competed in local amateur leagues. The club won its first major trophy in 1985, when it won the Natal Third Division.
In 1996, Mzayoni was promoted to the National First Division, the second tier of South African soccer. The club spent four seasons in the National First Division before being relegated in 2000.
Mzayoni returned to the National First Division in 2008. The club has remained in the National First Division ever since.
