History
The Blacks were founded in 1954 by a group of African-Australians who wanted to create a team that represented their community. The team's first home ground was at the Albert Park Cricket Ground.
The Blacks quickly became one of the most successful teams in the Victorian Amateur Soccer League. They won the league championship four times in the 1960s and 1970s.
In 1995, the Blacks were one of the founding members of the Victorian Premier League. They have since won the league championship four times, most recently in 2018.
Notable players
- Ashley Callaghan: Callaghan is the Blacks' all-time leading goalscorer, with 120 goals. He has also won the Dockerty Cup with the team twice.
- Kwame Yeboah: Yeboah is a former Ghana international who played for the Blacks in the early 2000s. He is considered one of the best players to have ever played for the team.
- Lachlan Wales: Wales is a current Australia international who plays for the Melbourne Victory in the A-League. He started his career with the Blacks and made his senior debut for the team in 2012.
