More about the team

Woodman Batley Carr FC

The Woodman Batley Carr Football Club, formerly known as the White Heart FC was originally formed by friends Tim Hetherington, Lindsay Wright, Bob Pearson, and Dean Woodhead in the mid 1980's and played from the White Heart Pub in Batley for the first few years in the Heavy Woollen League.

Around about 1995 the lads decided that a change was required and ventured to a pub just off Bradford Road in Batley called the Woodman. At the time Mick and Alice Inghan had the pub and made the lads very welcome, Alice catering for the boys appetite after the game every week. More recently, John and Jane Foulstone have taken over the Woodman and they too make it a great place to be, even if the lager is a bit too dear.....!!!!!

Since the formation of the football club the playing personel may have changed over the years but the team spirit lives on. Hetheringtons jolly japes have been replaced with Paul Stratford's stupid jokes and pranks in the dressing room, and Woodheads flatulent outbursts have been replaced by the rubbish that is spoken week in week out by Neil Pickles and Jordan Peace.

Having had too many players for one team, Woodman Batley Carr Reserves was founded in 2000 to enable the young lads coming through to play in the famous blue of the Woodman and give those in the twighlight of their careers the opportunity to carry on for as long as possible.

Honours wise the first team secured promotion from the 2nd to the first division in 1998/9 by finishing runners up behind White Lee in a hotly contested season. Two years later was the clubs finest hour when, appearing in their first and only cup final to date the Woodman faced Premier Division Champions Overthorpe at Ossett Albion and triumphed 2-1 thanks to goals on the night from Richard Endicott and Andrew Kendrick. Captain Dean Hurst lifted the league cup as the Woodman Batley Carr became the first club this century to win it.

In 2006/7 the Woodman, managed by the ever volatile Dennis Savage secured their first ever promotion to the Premier Division after finishing second in the league behind Littletown. Dennis was ably assisted by the vocal Martin Brook. The pair have since mved on to pastures new nd manage Littletown on Saturday afternoons in the West Riding County Amateur League.

The reserves have also had their taste of promotion when, in 2003 they finished runner up in division 3 to take their place in the 2nd division where they still play today.
