Wisla Kraków is a Polish professional football club based in Kraków. It currently competes in the I liga, the second level of Polish football league system. It ranks fourth in the number of national titles won (13), behind Górnik Zabrze, Ruch Chorzów (both on 14), and Legia Warsaw (15), and second in all-time victories. Wisla was founded in 1906 under the name TS Wisla (Polish: Towarzystwo Sportowe Wisla).
History
Wisla Kraków has a long and storied history. The club has won 13 Polish championships, 4 Polish Cups, and 3 UEFA Intertoto Cups. Wisla has also reached the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League on one occasion.
The club's most successful period was in the early 2000s, when they won 6 Polish championships in a row. Wisla also reached the Champions League quarterfinals in 2002, where they were knocked out by Valencia.
Wisla Kraków has a long-standing rivalry with Cracovia, another football club from Kraków. The matches between the two teams are known as the "Cracovia Derby" and are some of the most passionate and intense matches in Polish football.
Recent seasons
Wisla Kraków has struggled in recent seasons. The club was relegated from the Ekstraklasa, the top level of Polish football, in 2020. Wisla has since been playing in the I liga, but they have not been able to challenge for promotion.
The club's current chairman is Dawid Blaszczykowski, a former Polish international footballer. Blaszczykowski has pledged to help Wisla Kraków return to the Ekstraklasa.
