Wema FC is a football (soccer) team based in Nairobi, Kenya. The team was founded in 1976 and is currently playing in the National Super League, the second tier of Kenyan football.
Wema FC has won the National Super League once, in 2019. The team has also reached the final of the Kenyan Cup on three occasions, most recently in 2018.
History
Wema FC was founded in 1976 by a group of young men from the Wema estate in Nairobi. The team quickly rose through the ranks of Kenyan football and won promotion to the top flight in 1982.
Wema FC spent the next few years in the top flight, but they were relegated in 1990. The team bounced back to the top flight in 1994, but they were relegated again in 1999.
Wema FC spent the next decade in the lower leagues of Kenyan football. However, the team returned to the top flight in 2010 and has been there ever since.
Recent seasons
Wema FC has been a consistent performer in the National Super League in recent seasons. The team finished in third place in 2017 and 2018, and they won the league in 2019.
Wema FC also reached the final of the Kenyan Cup in 2018, but they lost to Gor Mahia on penalties.
