Introduction
Washington FC is an American professional men's soccer team based in Washington, D.C. that competes in the Eastern Conference of Major League Soccer (MLS), the top tier of American soccer.
The club was founded in 1995 and is one of the original 10 teams in MLS. They have won four MLS Cups (1996, 1997, 1999, 2004), four Supporters Shields (1997, 1999, 2006, 2013), three U.S. Open Cups (1996, 2008, 2013), and six Eastern Conference championships.
The club's home stadium is Audi Field, which opened in 2018. Their current manager is Wayne Rooney.
Recent History
Washington FC had a successful run in the late 1990s and early 2000s, winning four MLS Cups and four Supporters Shields in that time period. However, the club has struggled in recent years, failing to make the playoffs in four of the past five seasons.
The club made some changes in the offseason, hiring Wayne Rooney as manager and bringing in a number of new players. They are hoping to turn things around in 2023 and make a run at the playoffs.
