Walaalo FC is a Somali-based football team based in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, London. The team was founded in 2005 by a group of Somali refugees who wanted to create a space for Somalis to play football and connect with their community.
Walaalo FC currently competes in the London Intermediate Football League. The team has won the league championship twice, in 2012 and 2015. Walaalo FC has also reached the FA Vase final once, in 2017.
History
Walaalo FC was founded in 2005 by a group of Somali refugees who wanted to create a space for Somalis to play football and connect with their community. The team's name, Walaalo, means "brothers" in Somali.
The team's first home ground was a park in Kensington. The team later moved to a ground in Chelsea. Walaalo FC has also played at various other grounds in London.
Successes
Walaalo FC has enjoyed a great deal of success since its founding. The team has won the London Intermediate Football League championship twice, in 2012 and 2015. Walaalo FC has also reached the FA Vase final once, in 2017.
Walaalo FC's most famous player is Mohamed "Mo" Farah. Farah is a Somali-born British long-distance runner who has won four Olympic gold medals. Farah played for Walaalo FC as a youngster.
