More about the team
Welcome to Sutton Manor Juniors Football Academy. The Academy was set up in 2008 by Mrs Jenny Leyland MBE. The idea of the academy was to give boys and girls the chance to play for a football team instead of wasting their time hanging around corners.
The club at the minute consists of under 9's and under 10's mixed teams but we hope in 2014 that we will have more teams including a youth development team.
Message from the Under 10s Manager
Dear All,
Thank you very much for looking at our website, I hope you like what you see and that you would consider joining our club. This club has gone from strength to strength in recent years and I am very confident we have the coaches in place to start making it look bigger and better.
Whilst our under 12s team disbanded, 2013 was still a good season for us with the introduction of a new Under 9s team, half of whose players had never played a match before. Our aim at the start of the season wasn't to go out and win every match like other teams feel is necessary, but to make sure our players enjoyed their time at the club and that everyone got a fair chance to play football.
We started the year with a bunch of rowdy kids who over the course of the season really learned how to play as a team. Regardless of ability we tried to ensure that everyone got their fair share of game time and this showed in the way that everyone trained hard and turned out on match days. At the end of the season we had a bunch of real players who performed like a true team and never let their heads go down in matches regardless of the scoreline.
Whilst we didn't win many games in the league, our cup run was very good with us almost making the semi-finals and beating some top teams along the way. An achievement that we can really be proud of.
We fought valiantly during every match in the season despite losing a number of players which affected out goal scoring abilitites at times but undeterred some of our other players stepped up to help us out. I'm really proud of the way we promoted ourselves and of how the whole team has bonded.
It was great to work with Louise last season and to welcome back Stu who had a break from the club following the birth of his daughter. I'm sorry to see Louise move down to the younger team as I'll miss her enthusiasm but am sure they'll flourish under her guidance, together with the experience that George will bring to their new team and I wish them every success this season.
For the under 10s we welcome the return of a strong spine of players to the team and the introduction of a handful of new players who together I believe will go a long way and make us even more proud this season. We've already had a great start to the season and have received some tremendous comments from other teams as to how well we play as a unit. This is great for us to hear and just shows what we can do when everyone works together. Good luck to everyone this season!
