More about the team
Stepping Hill have been playing football for over 20 years, having originated as a largely medical team, hailing from the revered medical establishment in Stockport. Following success in local leagues, the aging team stepped down a gear and spent two seasons playing friendlies, before joining the recently formed Cheshire Veterans League. In 2002, there came a change of Management, and many of the older players retired. There they have flourished, with varying degrees of lack of success, until a change of policy ("let's try and win some matches") in 2008-9 led to an influx of players closer to the age of 35, achieving promotion to the Premier Division, and relegating our stalwart veterans to the bench, or worse, the garden at home. This was not acceptable and our wives have insisted that we get out there and out from under their feet. So, the second team was born. Stepping Hill's seconds, are affectionately known as Stumbling Hill, or more respectfully, The President's Eleven. We have a great tradition of touring and send the English representative team to the World Medical Games each year. In addition we make two trips each year with ISL sports, one to Jersey (April) and one to Portugal (September). We have fostered close ties with The British Medical Football Team.....we see them as a sort of feeder club !! In 2014 we play in the third and fifth divisions of the rapidly enlarging Cheshire Veterans League. It seems old guys are out there in adundance.
