Shrewsbury Town Football Club is a professional association football club based in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England. The team competes in League One, the third tier of English football. The club plays its home games at New Meadow, having moved from the Gay Meadow in 2007. They have won the Shropshire Senior Cup a record 67 times and are the only club from the county to ever play in the Football League.
History
Shrewsbury Town was founded in 1886 and joined the Shropshire & District League in 1890. They moved up to the Birmingham & District League five years later and won the league title in 1901. The club then joined the Football League Third Division in 1921.
Shrewsbury Town reached the FA Cup semi-finals in 1978, losing to Arsenal. They have also won the Football League Trophy twice, in 1987 and 1997.
The club's most famous player is probably Graham Turner, who played for Shrewsbury Town from 1964 to 1983. Turner also managed the club from 1984 to 2003.
Recent seasons
Shrewsbury Town finished in 12th place in League One in 2022-23. They have also reached the play-offs in recent seasons, but have not been promoted to the Championship.
