Introduction

The Ron football (soccer) team is a Dutch professional football club based in Rotterdam. The club was founded in 1902 and currently competes in the Eerste Divisie, the second tier of Dutch football.

The club's home ground is De Kuip, which has a capacity of 51,174. Ron's most famous player is Ron Vlaar, who played for the club from 2005 to 2012.

History

Ron was founded in 1902 by a group of workers from the Nederlandsche Rijn- en Zeevaartschool. The club's first team played in the amateur leagues until 1954, when they were promoted to the Eerste Divisie. Ron won their first Eerste Divisie title in 1962. They were promoted to the Eredivisie the following season, and have remained in the top flight ever since. Ron's most successful period was in the 1970s and 1980s. They won the Eredivisie title four times (1971, 1974, 1984, and 1990), and the KNVB Cup three times (1968, 1970, and 1984). The club has also been successful in European competition. They reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup in 1984, and the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup in 1991.
