Riverplate FC is a football club based in Kajiado, Kenya. The club was founded in 1960 and currently competes in the Kenyan Premier League. Riverplate FC is one of the most successful clubs in Kenya, having won the Kenyan Premier League 10 times and the Kenyan Cup 12 times.
History
Riverplate FC was founded in 1960 by a group of friends who were fans of the Argentine club River Plate. The club's first home ground was a field in the Kajiado suburb of Ngong. Riverplate FC quickly became one of the most successful clubs in Kenya, winning the Kenyan Premier League for the first time in 1965.
The club's most successful period was in the 1970s and 1980s, when they won the Kenyan Premier League 5 times and the Kenyan Cup 4 times. Riverplate FC also reached the final of the African Cup of Champions Clubs in 1980, where they lost to Egypt's Al Ahly.
Recent years
Riverplate FC have not won the Kenyan Premier League since 2000, but they have remained one of the most competitive clubs in the country. The club reached the final of the Kenyan Cup in 2015, where they lost to Tusker FC.
Riverplate FC's home ground is the Kenyatta Stadium in Ngong. The stadium has a capacity of 10,000 spectators.
