The club was founded in 1913 as a team for Philips employees, and the club's name is an abbreviation of Philips Sport Vereniging. PSV is one of the most successful clubs in Dutch football, having won 24 Eredivisie titles, 19 KNVB Cups, 14 Johan Cruyff Shields, and the 1987–88 European Cup.
History
- PSV was founded in 1913 by employees of the Philips electronics company.
- The club won its first Eredivisie title in 1928–29.
- PSV won the European Cup in 1987–88, defeating Benfica in the final.
- The club has also won the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup (1978) and the UEFA Intertoto Cup (1997).
- PSV has produced some of the best Dutch players of all time, including Johan Cruyff, Ruud Gullit, Arjen Robben, and Memphis Depay.
