History
Persebaya Surabaya was founded on June 10, 1927, by a group of students and youth activists. The club's name is derived from the Indonesian words "Persatuan" (union) and "Sepakbola" (football). Persebaya Surabaya's home ground is the Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium, which has a capacity of 50,000 spectators.
Persebaya Surabaya has won 7 Indonesian League titles, 5 Indonesia Cups, and 1 Piala Presiden. The club's most successful period was in the 1970s and 1980s, when they won 5 Indonesian League titles and 3 Indonesia Cups.
Recent seasons
Persebaya Surabaya has been in a period of decline in recent years. The club was relegated to the Liga 2 in 2013, but they returned to the Liga 1 in 2017. Persebaya Surabaya finished in 14th place in the Liga 1 in 2022.
