Penydarren Football Club is a Welsh football club based in Merthyr Tydfil. The club was founded in 1876 and currently plays in the Welsh League Division Two.
History
Penydarren was one of the founding members of the Welsh Football Association in 1876. The club won the inaugural Welsh Cup in 1877 and went on to win the competition a further four times.
Penydarren also enjoyed success in the FA Cup, reaching the semi-finals in 1884. The club's most famous player is Billy Meredith, who went on to win the FA Cup with Manchester City and Manchester United.
Recent seasons
Penydarren has been playing in the Welsh League Division Two since 2017. The club finished in third place in the 2021-22 season, narrowly missing out on promotion to Division One.
Penydarren's home ground is Penydarren Park, which has a capacity of 2,000. The club's most famous match at Penydarren Park was the 1884 FA Cup semi-final against Preston North End, which Penydarren lost 5-2.
