The club was founded in 1895 as Pine Villa F.C., and changed their name to Oldham Athletic in 1899. They joined the Football League Second Division in 1907, and were promoted to the First Division in 1910. They finished as runners-up in the First Division in 1915, which is their best ever league finish.
Oldham have reached the FA Cup semi-finals three times, in 1910, 1914, and 1990. They also reached the League Cup final in 1990, but lost to Nottingham Forest.
The club's home ground is Boundary Park, which has a capacity of 10,576. Their current manager is David Unsworth, who was appointed in September 2022.
Recent History
Oldham Athletic were founder members of the Premier League in 1992, but were relegated two years later and fell to the third tier by 1997. The club ended a 21-season-long stay in the third tier – which encompassed numerous financial crises – with relegation out of League One in 2018.
At the end of the 2021–22 season, relegation from League Two was confirmed and the club fell into the National League, becoming the first former Premier League team to play non-League football.
The club's recent history has been turbulent, with a number of changes in ownership and management. However, there are signs of improvement under the current management team, and the club will be looking to challenge for promotion back to League Two in the 2023–24 season.
