More about the team
King William IV & St Josephs F.C. formed in June 2003 as the one entity. Formerly two separate sides, playing from different pubs, were both individually unable to field an 11-a-side team. Through a couple of player connections, it was decided to form ONE side with a mixture of both sets of players.
St Josephs (Flamstead End) FC formed in 1965 as was and is now still one of the oldest clubs representing the Mercury Waltham Football League. They played for most of their history at Flamstead End Playing Fields in Cheshunt. In the 1975/76 season, St Josephs won the presigious Herts Sunday Junior Cup and it was on that occasion that the ex-General Secretary of the League who was part of the club then, was in such a state in the Arras club after the match, he had to be literally carried home! St. Josephs gained promotion to the old Premier 2 division in the 70"s. St Josephs as a group of players, all drink in the Coach and Horses in Crossbrook street, Cheshunt. In 1992/93 St Josephs were the losing finalists in the Herts Intermediate Cup and were also winners of the Sunday Intermediate Cup beating St Margaretsbury in the final. In 1993/94 St Josephs won promotion by winning Division 2 title. In 1999/2000 St Josephs were losing finalists in the Roy Bailey Challenge Final to an all conquering Arras FC by 3-1. Were very close to causing an upset, in fornt of an excellent full packed Cheshunt ground. The club folded for a season at the end of a hard campaign in Division One in 2001/02 but have nearly all stayed together as a unit and have now returned to be part of this new set up side in Division 3.
King William IV F.C. have been running a 7-a-side pub team in leagues for a few seasons now but have never had enough interest player wise, to form a Sunday morning 11-a-side team. Were close this season from making the play-offs in their respective league based at John Warner. All the players drink in the aptly names King William IV pub in Lord Street, Hoddesdon.
Now as one team, the side is based at the King William IV pub who kindly sponsor the Team.
UPDATE SEPT 05
We are currently in division 4, following what can only be described as 2 below par seasons. We have kept the team going through a combination of a great team spirit and continued support from our chairperson, lyndsey kennedy. we also need to thank the likes of our manager vic, captain nigel and jimmy who between them have sponsored the rather fetching new kit(at last a pair of shorts that fit me).
