K.C.F.C. is a defunct American professional women's soccer club based in Kansas City, Missouri. The team was one of the eight founding clubs of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) in 2012, and began play in 2013. They were two-time NWSL champions, having won titles in 2014 and 2015. After the 2017 season, the NWSL re-acquired owner Elam Baer's membership interest and subsequently ceased the team's operations.
History
K.C.F.C. was founded in 2012 by Chris Likens, his two sons Brad and Greg Likens, and Brian Budzinski. The team's name was chosen to reflect the city's history of soccer, as Kansas City was one of the first cities in the United States to have a professional soccer team.
K.C.F.C. played its home games at Children's Mercy Park, which is also the home of Sporting Kansas City, the city's Major League Soccer (MLS) team. The team's colors were blue and yellow, and its logo featured a stylized fleur-de-lis.
K.C.F.C. won its first NWSL championship in 2014, defeating the Portland Thorns in the final. The team repeated as champions in 2015, defeating the Seattle Reign.
After the 2017 season, the NWSL re-acquired owner Elam Baer's membership interest and subsequently ceased the team's operations. The league cited financial reasons for the decision.
