Ipswich Town Football Club is a professional association football club based in Ipswich, Suffolk, England, that competes in the Championship, the second tier of English football.
History
Ipswich Town were founded in 1878 but did not turn professional until 1936; it was subsequently elected to join the Football League in 1938.
- The club won the English league title in 1961–62, their first season in the top flight, and finished runners-up in 1980–81 and 1981–82.
- Ipswich have also won the FA Cup in 1978 and the UEFA Cup in 1981.
- The club's most famous player is Sir Alf Ramsey, who managed Ipswich to their league title win in 1962 and later went on to manage the England national team to victory in the 1966 World Cup.
