Hostel Football Club is a Gambian football club based in Banjul. The club was founded in 1965 and is named after the hostel where the players lived. Hostel is one of the most successful clubs in Gambian football, having won the Gambian Premier League 11 times and the Gambian FA Cup 10 times.
History
Hostel was founded in 1965 by a group of students who lived in the hostel. The club quickly became one of the top teams in Gambian football, winning its first Gambian Premier League title in 1970. Hostel went on to win the league again in 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1980, and 1981.
Hostel also won the Gambian FA Cup in 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1980, and 1981.
Hostel's most successful period was in the 1970s, when they won the league seven times in a row and the cup six times in a row. The club also reached the final of the African Cup of Champions Clubs in 1975, where they lost to TP Mazembe of Zaire.
Recent years
Hostel has not been as successful in recent years, but they still remain one of the top clubs in Gambian football. The club won the Gambian Premier League in 2005 and the Gambian FA Cup in 2006.
Hostel is currently playing in the Gambian Premier League. The club finished in third place in the 2022 season.
